"A successful physician and surgeon of Newport, TN. Early in life James M. Calvin Atchley had an opportunity to display a decided strength of character and ability, for he had to earn the money to pay his tuition and other expenses while attending school. In 1896 he graduated from Maury Academy, Dandridge, Jefferson county, TN, and six years later received his M. D. degree from Lincoln Memorial University, at Knoxville, TN. Here, too, he served his interneship. In 1902 he established an office in Newport, TN, and since then has been engaged in a constantly increasing general practice in addition to which he has done a very considerable amount of surgery. Always keenly interested in the newest scientific developments Dr. Atchley has kept pace with the progress of events in the medical world in spite of the many demands upon his time and energies. He is a member of the American Medical Association, the East TN Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association, and the TN State Medical Association. During the recent war he served on the Volunteer Medical Corps."
