CENSUS: 1850 Clarke County Arkansas.

MILITARY: War of 1812; Ensign Missoui Cert #83.898 for 40 arces of land. Cert
dated March 9, 1853. Company commanded by Capt. Martin Ruggles' Company of
Mounted Volunteer Militia of Missouri Territory. Discharged at Camp Russell,
Illinois Territory October 21, 1813.

NOTES: Volunteer's lead by Col. NcNair. Discharged at St Louis, Missouri.

MILITARY: Indian Wars of 1816. Servied under Capt. Davis for 60 days.

NOTES: "The American State Papers:, Vol 2. Published by Gales and Seaton,
Waashington, 1834. Land Claims in The Missouri Territory.
Page 506. "Thomas McLaughlin-a claim for 900 and 8 arpents of land, situate at
Bellevue, District of St. Genevieve. Produces to the Board of survey of the
same, dated 22nd of January, 1806. Benjamin Crow, being duly sworn, says that
he was present when claiment obtained from the commandant permission to settle
on vacant lands; that he began the improving of said land in 1803; made a camp
on the same, and had his family on it, but was obliged by sickness to remove
from the same; that, in the beginning of 1804, he built a cabin, raised a crop
on said land, and has wife and child. Opinion of the Board: April 23, 1810.
Present: John B.C. Lucas and Clement B. Penrose, Commissioners. It is the
opionion of the Board that this claim ought not to be granted."

OBITUARY: Beloved wife of the late R. G. Orr, Mother of Dr. Rodney G. Orr and
wife, Marjorie of Arlington, Texas; Don Hadry Orr and wife, Betty of New
Orleans, and the late Jack Terrance Orr of Bossier City, La.
Also survived by daughter-in-law, Alice G. Orr of Bossier City. She had
seven grandchildren; Dona Landry, Kaye Hoffman, Susan Harrist, Terry Gill, Pam
Geiman, Dr. Geoffrey A. Orr, and the late Bruce James Orr, Lt. (j.g.): USNR and
eight great grandchildren.
She was a resident of Bossier City most of her life, and was born in
McNeil, Arkansas on July 28, 1904, she passed away at Schumpert Medical Center
after a lengthy illness on April 28, 1995. She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church in Bossier City.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. on May 1, 1995, at Rose-Neath
Bossier Chapel, Reverend Austin F. Smith, Associate Pastor of First United
Methodist Church will officiate, burial will be at Forest Park Cemetery in
Shreveport.
Mrs. Orr will be in state at Rose-Neath Bossier after 1:00pm, Sunday,
April 30, 1995, and the family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

and their first child, a girl, was born on the flatboat journey so she was
named "Betsy Waters". In 1819 the Gragg clan, including the Crows, removed to
Clark Co., Arkansas. Benjamin Crow's son Walter married Margaret Hutchinson
and their daughter Amanda Crow married Abraham Landers Ware (Weir) in 1837
Clark Co., Ark. (see Vol XIX #1. Weir Family Bible.)

OBITUARY: Mrs. Mary Ann Wheeler Orr, born in Bradley County during the Civil
War died at her home near Eagle Lake Tuesday 1-31-1956.
Daughter of the late Joseph & Sarah Hamlet Wheeler, born here on Feb 18,
1862.
Survived by 3 sons Ed of Crossett, Arkansas, R.G. of Bossier City,
Louisiana, Grady of Ingalls, Arkansas; 2 daughters Mrs. Maude Temple of Hot
Springs, Arkansas, and Mrs Jimmy Lou Burchfield of San Antonio, Texas; 25
grandchildren, 53 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral service were at Palestine Church at 2:30 Wed. by Rev J. F.
Johnson. Burial at Palestine by Frazer Funeral Home.

OBITUARY: Magnolia Banner, Magnolia, Arkansas, Thursday, December 20, 1906.
Tragic: Last Saturday evening as carrier Smith wwas returning home, and
near Mr. Burchfield's gin, he came upin Mr. W.H. Lockett, dead and lying in the
middle of the road. Mr. Lockette was killed by a falling tree, which broke his
neck. The tree only six of seven inches in diameter had been blown on Mr. L.
He had been dead several hours when carrier found him. The family claims he
left home about 8a.m. and that he was killed shortly afterwards. Mr. Lockett
was in the vigor of manhood and leaves a wife and child and many friends to
deplore his untimely death. The bereaved family has the sympathy of the entire
