Colours and Geometry

The gold on black "overcheck" represents the heraldic arms that some Eubanks or Ewbanks have been granted, of which there are three, all having an arrangement of chevrons and circles in gold and black. The fine red overcheck, and the pattern of the plaid, are taken from the tartan of a family named Vipont, with whom the Eubanks had a historical connection by marriage some seven or eight hundred years ago when the daughter of Sir Alexander Jewbanke married Robert Lord Vipont. Lord Vipont subsequently died of wounds received in the baronial wars when he sided with Simon de Montfort against Edward III.

The wide blue undercheck represents the migration of many Eubanks to America, dark blue (where the blue check crosses) for the northern states, and light blue for the southern.
