Descendants of Thomas Eubank

(updated January15th, 2006)

Generation No. 1

1.    THOMAS2 EUBANK    (UNKNOWN1) was born in Lancaster. England, and died Jun 21, 1732 in MD, America,    Talbot County.    He married MARTHA HARRISON Abt. 1676, daughter of MARMADUKE HARRISON and UNKNOWN.    She was born Abt. 1646 in Tolbot Co, MD.

Notes for THOMAS EUBANK:

Thomas and his brother Richard    Ubanck were transported from England in the year 1675.    Transported means that someone other than the person being "transported" is paying for the passage.    Quite ofter "transported" is also described as a "servant", which means that he contracted to repay the cost of his transportation by agreeing to act as a servant for a period of years.    Under certain conditions of plantation life, a servant was entitled to claim fifty acres of land upon completing his period of servitude satisfactorily.    In a book on early settlers to MD, they were listed as coming to America in the year 1675, and their last name was spelled UBANCKE, on the passenger lists.

Thomas and Richard bought land together in 1685 and the land was called Poplar Hill.    It is located on the Chester River in Talbot Co., MD.    This was later changed to Queen Anne's County.    They bought

the land from Simon and Rebecca Wilmer on JAN 1, 1685.

Both Richard and Thomas were Quakers.    Thomas married Martha Harrison. She was the daughter of Marmaduke Harrison, who died in 1717 in Talbot County, MD.    In Marmaduke's will he left his entire estate to Thomas.    The will was probated August 13, 1717.    Thomas and Martha had thirteen known    children.    They were George, Adam, Mary, Lydia, Margaret, Martha, Phyllis, Elizabeth, William, John, Edward, Thomas, Jr., and Richard.

Lydia married Abell Grace, July 14, 1709, Third Haven Creek, Talbot Co., MD.     William was a carpenter and married Hanna Hall on August 9, 1704 at Tuckahoe Meeting Place, Talbot Co.    John must have died at a young age.    He left sons Thomas, George, and a daughter Martha, who married John Murphy.    Edward was given 50 acres "Hog Neck" in his farther's will of 1732. Martha married William Kemp, on July 11, 1717.

Thomas, Sr. died in 1732 in Talbot County, MD.    His will dated FEB 7, 1732, and probated SEPT 22, 1732.    He listed his wife Martha, to have dwelling plantation and residue of lands, and entire personal estate during life, to be divided among her children as she thinks fit, after death, the plantation and lands belonging to it to grandson Richard in gratification for estate left by his father.    To son Edward and heirs, 50 acres "Hog Neck" formerly given to son George and sold by him to son Edward.    To Adam and heirs, "Omaly's Range:, adjacent to "Gallaway"; said son dying during his minority or without issue to pass to his next brother George and heirs.

It is the opinion of Jeannie A. Eubanks, who wrote a history of John Eubanks, Brother of Thomas, ( who was given the land grant in 1757), that the family Eubanks came from England to Talbot County, MD to

Jones County, NC, and to Pendleton District SC. Some came to Georgia and others went to TN and into Illinois. There are Eubanks in Virginia, who could have migrated down from MD, then some on to North Caroline, etc.

Above said John, was given a land grant on NOV 5, 1791 by Governor Pinckney of SC.    He was granted 875 acres of land located on Twelve Mile River and Golden Creek in Pendleton District, SC. Today it is known as Pickens County.

The only information that could be found on the wife of John Eubanks was from a deed that said her name was Martha.    John was born before 1755, and died after 1814.    Some relatives believe both John and Martha are buried in a private cemetery near Liberty, SC.    This is the same cemetery that their daughter Elizabeth and her husband,    James Parsons are buried    in.

The above passages was taken from a book on John Eubanks written by Jeannie Butler Eubanks.    I have a copy of her book and she states that she believes that Thomas, who was married to Martha Harrison, on down the line, is our line of decent.    The information in this report on Thomas comes from others as well.    I have read several things that lead me to believe this is true, but I personally cannot state it for a fact.

Of Thomas, Sr.'s brother, Richard, I can only find one bit of information, and it was were he served as a witness on some one's will, or a land deed.    Other than were they (he and Thomas) bought land in

1785, I have not been able to find any thing else on him.

NOTE:

Some, but not all of the Eubank-Eubanks records were taken from Submissions to the World Family Tree and found in different volumns of the WFT. Some of the records were also found in LDS Files.

This Will was very hard to read and some of the words could not be read, and I guess for that time it was written, it most probably could have been understood easier than today.

I typed the above as close to the original wording and spelling as I was able to read.
